We hope you like the new refresh. The site has been revamped ensuring the pillars of practice are at the forefront and underpin your development journey through the site. The links, learning resources and policies have been reviewed and updated where necessary to reflect the changes in our healthcare landscape.

Effective Practitioner Site refresh

The Effective Practitioner webpages are undergoing a refresh. The resource will still have all the elements used, and valued by practitioners but with some additions.The stye and structure of site itself look different giving a more modern feel with easier navigation. The most current resources and information will continue to be signposted as well as the opportunity to learn from others and share practice.

The changes are due to take effect in spring 2019 so be sure to keep coming back.

 

November 2018

Applications are now open for The General Nursing Council for Scotland (Education) Fund and Margaret Callum Rodger Award. The awards are an education and learning opportunity for registered nurses and midwives to undertake educational developments, study tours or carry out small scale projects, all of which must make a difference to patient or client care.

The Fund will close for submission of applications at 5.00pm on Wednesday 23rd January 2019.

Transforming NMAHP Roles

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in Scotland has outlined a commitment to maximising the contribution of the Nursing, Midwifery and Health Professions (NMAHP) workforce. This means that the boundaries of traditional roles will be pushed to help meet the future needs of our health and care system.

Making delegation safe and effective: a learning resource for Nurses, Midwives, Allied Health Professionals and Health Care Support Workers

This learning resource draws on information from a range of sources, bringing together guidance from professional bodies, the law and best practice to help you access information and advice on making informed decisions about delegating tasks and about accepting tasks delegated. Opportunities to reflect on your practice are also included. It has been developed for nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and healthcare support workers working in Health or Social Care settings. The learning resource may also be relevant for any staff group where delegation is required.

District Nurse CPD Learning Resource

This learning resource is aimed at all band 6 district nurses to support with the transition to the refocused role and is also suitable for other community nurses seeking development.

The learning resource is self-directed and is organised around the Pillars of Practice model. Each pillar has a self-assessment to help you identify your priority learning needs and then direct you to the relevant learning sections that you can work through. The time to complete the resource will vary dependant on your learning needs.

APRIL 2018

1st National NMAHP Conference: Stronger Together - Working in Partnership to Support the Education and Development of the NMAHP Workforce was held on Thursday 26 April 2018

NES was delighted to announce their first National Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions (NMAHP) Education Conference which was held on Thursday 26 April 2018 in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

The conference was affiliated to the highly successful annual Medical Education Conference which has grown over the years to include the Medical Appraisal Conference, Practice Managers Conference, General Practice Nurse Conference, and, for the first time last year, the Pharmacy Conference.

The theme was transformational education and workforce development to support new models of care and the programme was structured to provide a mixture of plenary sessions and simultaneous parallel sessions designed to facilitate discussion of key professional issues of relevance to those of us involved in Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions, practice education and workforce development in Scotland.

It includes details about the Post-registration Career Development Framework and other specialist frameworks, Flying Start NHS, Effective Practitioner, Early Clinical Career and AHP Careers Fellowships, the NMAHP eHealth Leadership programme, and the Turas Nursing and Midwifery ePortfolio.

 

FEBRUARY 2018

The Scottish Quality and Safety Fellowship - cohort 11

Applications are now closed for the 11th cohort of this lead level Fellowship programme.

Over 10 successful years the Scottish Quaity & Safety Fellowship has developed more than 200 Fellows, enhaning their individual capactiy for leadership in patient safety and quality improvement.  Every year the programme is assessed and an updated new version developed to meet the needs of our ongoing national goals and ambitions

The Fellowship has been developed in partnership with NHS Education for Scotland, Healthcare Improvement Scotland and NHSScotland Boards.  The Fellowship is a 10-month programme of distance learning, coaching and focussed residential sminars.
