About Effective Practitioner

Effective Practitioner is a national initiative providing work-based learning resources and support for Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals in Scotland. It assists Practitioners and Senior Practitioners to deliver the 2020 Vision and meet the Quality Ambitions of Person Centred, Safe and Effective Care.

How does Effective Practitioner work?

The initiative provides work-based learning resources and support to practitioners and senior practitioners. It also provides guidance for managers and educators on how to support their staff. This website is the central resource for wider workplace activity.

Each NHS Board has a network of nationally-funded practice educators, practice education leads and practice education facilitators is in place to support and promote Effective Practitioner in each of the NHS Boards. Find out which useful contacts could assist you.

How can Effective Practitioner achieve its aims?

The initiative emphasises the critical role that NMAHPs play in day-to-day care delivery in NHS Scotland. The work-based learning and development activities, resources and links make it easier for staff to keep up-to-date, collect evidence for their KSF Development Review and professional revalidation, and create a meaningful Personal Development Plan (PDP).

The importance of recognising and providing person-centred, safe and effective care is consistent through-out and interlinked with practical, measurable learning activities.

NES is working with a wide range of stakeholders representing NHS Boards, educational institutions and professional organisations, as well as patients and clients, to ensure that Effective Practitioner continues to be relevant, dynamic and aligned with current policy.
