Implementing Effective Practitioner

Effective Practitioner can be implemented by individuals to enhance staff development and patient care. There are many examples of how this has been done in NHS Board across Scotland using a project-based approach. This page shares these projects to enable you and your team to consider using a similar approach. Funding is not usually required for projects but if you do think funding will help you may wish discuss with your manager.

If you want to support a team to progress an Effective Practitioner Project, here are some things to help you:

  1. Involve the team from the outset (co-production and collaboration is more likely to be achieved and sustained with people).
  2. Be realistic about what can be achieved - think SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound.
  3. You might want to start with an Action Plan or a Project Plan.
  4. Consider how you will know you have achieved your aim what will be the evidence of success.
  5. How will you share your learning e.g. team meeting; sharing event; posters; presentations; reports.
